This gene encodes a member of the nidogen family of basement membrane proteins. This protein is a cell-adhesion protein that binds collagens I and IV and laminin and may be involved in maintaining the structure of the basement membrane.

NIF3-like protein 1is aproteinthat in humans is encoded by theNIF3L1gene. NIF3L1 has been shown to interact with COPS2. Expression analysis on cell lines revealed strong overexpression in a spermatogonia-derived cell line and a teratocarcinoma cell line. A human NIF3L1/GFP fusion protein showed localization of the protein in the cytoplasm.
